Colleges & Universities

The State of Massachusetts has 117 public and private universities, with a particular concentration in Boston and Cambridge. This significant number gives the city its character and international prestige.  Boston is famous for its colleges and universities: Boston University, Tufts, Northeastern University, Wellesley College, Boston College… And in the heart of Cambridge, across the Charles River, 2 miles from the centre of Boston, lies the oldest American university founded in 1638, Harvard. 33 Nobel Prize winners have been trained in this prestigious university in disciplines as diverse as medicine, chemistry, and economics. Also in Cambridge, the equally famous MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) provides high level training to students from around the world.  Present university campuses in the city and across the state provide a cultural dynamism and add a vibrant nightlife to the state’s atmosphere.
